The original investors in American Securities were the heirs of Julius Rosenwald, who was the primary owner and President of Sears Roebuck in the early 1900s. Julius was an early proponent of “giving while you live” and dedicated the majority of his fortune to charity. He firmly believed that the racial divide in the United States could not be mended unless those with privilege worked in partnership with marginalized communities to further their progress.
